Advanced Solutions for Synthetic Biology Applications
At Ansa Biotechnologies, we are developing innovative solutions to overcome the limitations of traditional DNA synthesis methods, enabling you to achieve your scientific goals without compromise.
Complex DNA sequences are often rejected by gene synthesis vendors, forcing researchers to redesign experiments and settle for less than they envisioned. Worse yet, it can be frustrating and extremely disruptive when vendors accept complex sequences but later fail to deliver them. These setbacks can waste valuable time and resources. By collaborating closely with our customers, we’re enabling applications in synthetic biology that were previously unattainable.
Cell & Gene Therapy
Precise tuning of transgene expression to achieve desired therapeutic outcomes is required for successful cell and gene therapies. This demands full control over all genetic elements influencing expression, including promoters, untranslated regions (UTRs), and coding sequences. By reliably producing complex sequences, Ansa provides you with this control, offering more opportunities to optimize your expression systems.
Explore how Novel Bio partnered with Ansa to reliably synthesize complex 5’ UTR sequences for AAV-based gene therapy constructs.

Vaccine Development
mRNA and viral vector-based vaccine development requires optimization of antigen expression levels and pharmacokinetics, which can be influenced by mRNA stability and translation rates. Elements regulating expression can appear in both non-coding regions like UTRs as well as in antigen-coding regions, and often contain complex sequences. Furthermore, certain types of personalized cancer vaccine sequences are intrinsically repetitive and thus are unavoidably complex. Acquiring complex DNA sequences can be a bottleneck in developing and delivering potentially lifesaving treatments.
Ansa is changing that paradigm. Read how Touchlight, a CDMO in London, was able to obtain the complex sequences they needed to successfully serve their customers working on personalized cancer vaccines.
CRISPR, Agricultural Biotechnology, and More
Whether fine-tuning the expression levels of CRISPR systems to minimize off-target effects or optimizing transgene expression in crops, you are likely dealing with complex DNA that has been challenging to synthesize using traditional methods. Or, if you want to take advantage of the natural multiplexing capability of CRISPR systems to simultaneously cut multiple sites in the genome for elaborate genome editing, complex DNA is needed, because the “R” in “CRISPR” stands for “Repeats”.
Our novel approach allows us to routinely deliver highly repetitive constructs such as CRISPR arrays with 10 repeats, enabling advanced applications in genome editing.
In this webinar, hear from a researcher at Berkeley’s Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) about how repetitive sequences synthesized by Ansa enabled the development of the next generation highly-multiplexed genome editing tools as well as the characterization of novel plasmid systems from metagenomic data.

What are the main applications of gene synthesis?
Gene synthesis is widely used in synthetic biology, cell and gene therapy, protein engineering, vaccine development, and metabolic pathway design. It allows researchers to create precise genetic sequences for experimental and therapeutic purposes.
How is DNA synthesis applied in synthetic biology?
In synthetic biology, DNA synthesis enables the design and assembly of new biological parts, devices, and systems. Researchers can test engineered pathways, optimize metabolic functions, and accelerate innovation in fields like biofuels and biomaterials.
Why is enzymatic DNA synthesis important for gene synthesis applications?
Enzymatic DNA synthesis improves accuracy, sequence length, and reliability compared to chemical methods. This makes it especially valuable for applications that require long or complex sequences, such as large plasmid assembly or therapeutic gene constructs.
How is gene synthesis used in therapeutic research?
In therapeutic research, gene synthesis provides custom DNA constructs for developing cell and gene therapies, CAR-T treatments, antibody discovery, and RNA-based therapeutics. Reliable synthesis helps accelerate preclinical testing and translational research.
What advantages does DNA synthesis offer over traditional cloning methods?
DNA synthesis eliminates the need for cloning repetitive or complex sequences that are often difficult to handle with traditional methods. Researchers gain faster turnaround, sequence verification, and the ability to design constructs from scratch.
Can long DNA synthesis support advanced research applications?
Yes. Long DNA synthesis (up to 50 kb) enables applications that were previously unattainable, including synthetic genomes, pathway engineering, and large-scale functional studies.
